Alfred Chan Wing-kin, Managing Director of Towngas and Chairman of Towngas China, was among Harvard Business Review's list of The Best-Performing CEOs in the World for the fifth consecutive year. Mr Chan’s ranking jumped 30 places this year, and he is Hong Kong's only public utility CEO on the list.
Harvard Business Review calculates the overall shareholder return and market capital growth through assessing corporation’s financial indices as well as non-financial performance, while weighing their contributions to the environmental, social and governance (ESG) fields. From these figures, an overall financial ranking and two ESG rankings are derived, which determine the top 100 top-performing CEOs in the world. The weight of ESG rakings have been increased to 30% this year, reflecting a greater emphasis on corporate social responsibility(CSR). Towngas’ rankings for both the financial and CSR aspects have increased.
Mr Chan became Towngas Managing Director in 1997. For the past 20 odd years, he has led the Group to expand from a piped gas business into a world-class clean energy and public utility group, and transform from a gas distributor into a clean energy supplier and service provider to offer state of-the-art energy services to our society.
